Race 2 is this Sunday

That’s right. Sunday the 1st of April we will be back at it racing at Fisher Farm Park in Davidson. Are you ready to improve your series standings and improve your time? How many of you went back out to Fisher Farm and worked on your start? How about that killer of a hill? Are you making it a point to work on your climbing skills? Maybe you are just spending more time on your bike and going for longer rides. Every little bit helps.

I can’t think of a better way to begin spring break (for those of you in school in Mecklenburg county) than a bike race. Register for race 2 at BikeReg.com.

Results are posted for race 1

Great day today. We had nearly 90 kids come out and race in the first CYCL series race at Fisher Farms Park. Thanks to all the our sponsors and volunteers who worked hard to make this happen. To all the racers, you are awesome. Great job out there.

We have three more races to go. Work hard and see if you can beat your time at race 2!

Results are now posted online here.

Let’s get pumped!

Are you pumped yet? Have you been riding your little hearts out? Is Sunday the 18th marked on your calendar in multiple big fat red circles?

We can’t wait to see all those excited racers lining up to start. So just a few reminders.

Kids, have fun. That’s what this is all about. Having fun on a bike, on a trail outside, learning your limits and coming home safe (and dirty).

Be nice to others. Yep, that’s right. We ALL want to have fun and there is no reason why we can’t.

Hydrate well in advance of your race. Drink lots of water. Think about laying off the sodas on Saturday. Be sure you bring a cooler to the park as there isn’t a water fountain.

While racing don’t go overboard. Be safe. If you don’t think you can pedal up that hill or make it over that bump, you should probably walk it instead. It’s cool, I still have to walk stuff sometimes. Pass only where you know you can get around people without running them into the brush.

If you don’t win, don’t be upset. You worked really hard out there and for that reason alone you are one awesome person and you had fun trying your best. Practice more, learn more and be ready to give it your best next race.

We’ll be ringing the cowbell for you all.

The first CYCL race is THIS SUNDAY!

I’m going to get all PBS on you guys and do a registration drive this week. So every day I’m going to tell you all the great reasons why you should register right now.

You know you are going to anyway right? (please nod your head and say right.) So why not now? You know what happens when you show up on race day without pre-registering? You get to stand in line with say 50 people who didn’t pre-reg and you all get to fill out a registration form. Say buddy, can I use that pen after you? Honey, turn around so I can use your back as a writing surface. (cue the TV cheesy product announcer voice) What a mess!

Imagine race day when you pre-register.

It’s a beautiful spring day, the sun is shining, the kids got up early and made you breakfast, washed the car and loaded themselves up for the race. You arrive at Fisher Farm Park and see a huge knot of parents filling out paperwork on each others backs. You walk up the registration table. Neal Boyd says “Pre-registered?” You say yes, my racers name is Johnny Awesomesauce. Neal has you sign one little tiny sheet of paper and gives you Johnny’s number plate. Neal fist-bumps you and you stroll leisurely to find a nice place to watch your child rock it out in the first ever CYCL race and create an Awesomesauce family tradition of mountain bike racing excellence.

You can do it, we believe in you! Register now at BikeReg.com.

CYCL practice sessions offered

Hey kids, are you looking for someone to practice with and help improve your riding skills? Cool Breeze Cyclery and Kathy Goody are holding four practice sessions for our young racers.

Each one hour practice will include mt. bike handling skills, games and on trail/course practice. All participants need to have a helmet, a trail appropriate bike, and should be comfortable riding off road.

Kathy will head up sessions starting THIS SUNDAY 3/11 and 3/31, 4/21 and the final session on 5/5. All of the practices are 2-3pm and all will be held at Fisher Farm Park so your racer will be practicing on the actual course.

$55.00 for all four practices or $25.00 for one.
